Today my heart is a little heavier –
Early this morning, the world lost an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
While my heart is breaking, my heart is full as I look at the images from their
70th Wedding Anniversary shoot three years ago.
I will always remember them just like this, happy and in love.
May we all be this luck some day.
Lewis and Wilma are High School Sweethearts who married in 1946.
A new house cost $5,600
The average income was $2,500
The average car was $1,120
A ticket to the movies was $0.55
A gallon of gas was $0.21
A loaf of bread would cost you $0.10
& Tupperware was placed on department store shelves.
70 Years later, they have traveled across the country with Lewis’ sister, Lena and her husband, Wilbert, had two children, 5 grand children 10 great grand children and big family who loves and adores them. When it came to planting their roots, they didn’t go far. Carrollton, OH is where met, fell in love and will spend the rest of their lives together. Spending time with family and going out to dinner to the local Ponderosa are a few of their favorite things to do. Oh, and telling stories about years gone by, the stories are my favorite. (I personally love when they involve my Grandma Lena and Grandpa Wilbert. It is because of their stories that I know how my grandparents met, fell in love, and how my grandpa almost missed his own wedding because his truck broke down.)
I feel incredibly blessed to have these two remarkable people as role models in life and love.
When asked what the secret to 70 years of marriage was, Lewis replied, “Always say, yes!” He then he added, “I kiss her…three times a day. Once when I wake up, once when we get in the car and once before we go to bed. I always kiss her before bed.”
Wilma smiled and added, “And if we go down the stairs, he kisses me, so sometimes I get four kisses a day. But I got more kisses today because of this!”
So, say “Yes” and always kiss each other at least 3-4 times a day, because if you do, those little moments turn into – 25,550 days, 613,200 hours, 36,792,000 minutes & 2,207,520,000 seconds and 1 unbelievable love story.
Until we meet again…
