The Smith Family | Growing with Theo | Newborn | Lifestyle |Adoption

We have a guest blogger this week!
This family has such an amazing story and who better to tell it than Theo’s Mom, Maria!

Little Theo is the answer to our prayers!
We have been waiting 4 1/2 years for this little bundle of joy! Words can not even begin to describe how happy we are that he is finally here!
We started trying to grow our family in October 2012. After 2 years of infertility and treatments, I knew in my heart that I didn’t need to be pregnant,
I only needed to be a Mom. That’s when we decided that adoption was the path for us. We began the private adoption home-study process and a year later, we were matched with a birth mom who was having a little boy. We were thrilled! Our struggle was finally about to come to an end and we were going to be parents after nearly 3 1/2 years of waiting. Over the next few months, we prepared the nursery, told all our family and friends, and continued to wait on the call that our little boy had finally arrived.
However, the call we received was not the call we were expecting.
Right around the time of the birth mothers due date, she decided that she was going to keep her child and not move forward with the adoption.
We were crushed, heartbroken, left with an empty nursery and a hole in our heats.
We went back to waiting.
A year later, we got a call that a birth mom with an 8 day old baby boy wanted to meet us! We were anxious and nervous because he was already here! If we were matched, we would become his parents right away. We went to the hospital to meet his birth mom because she had had a C-section and was still admitted. We walked into her room and felt an instant connection with her. About 15 minutes into the meeting, she told us that she wanted us to be the adoptive parents! The joy was indescribable.
She walked us over to the nursery and we were able to meet our son for the first time.

It was such a crazy and unexpected day that we decided to keep the match a secret from our family…Because, how awesome would it be to just show up with our son!?
After our failed match a year before, we felt this would be a special surprise for the people who stood beside us through it all. So we did just that!
Once we were discharged, we just showing up at our parents house with Theo. SURPRISE!
There were many tears of joy shed that day as our family finally met the child we had so longed prayed for. We were finally parents and we knew this was the moment that God had prepared us for the previous year.
Because of that trial, we had the nursery ready and were able to focus on our new little family member instead of scrambling to get things together.

Because of that trial, a deep appreciation for every moment – every second of being parents.

Because of that trial, it prepared our hearts to deeply love his birth mom, because without her, we would not have him. She will forever have a special place in our hearts.

It has been a world wind the past few weeks, be WE ARE PARENTS!
FINALLY.
We could not be more blessed that his birth mom chose us
and we get to call ourselves his parents.
